Our Mission at the Adolescent Care Unit is to provide the best quality comprehensive psychiatric health care and culturally appropriate healing services for native american Adolescents and their Families.


Who We Are

We provide a full continuum of Mental Health services coordinating with community providers and referral sources through pre-admission inpatient to aftercare treatment.

The Adolescent Care Unit at Fort Defiance Indian hospital is a 16-bed facility for adolescents age 13 through 17 years of age with psychiatric and/or subatance abuse problems.

Common psychiatric problems treated are mood disorders, psychotic disorders, sicidality, self-harm, trauma, anxiety disorders, behavioral disorders and substance abuse or dependence as a secondary diagnosis.

Treatment at the Adolescent Care Unit revolved around the adolescent and his/her family. Treatment plans are developed in meetings with the adolescent and the family considering the strengths and needs of the individual and family.

Treatment is an integrated team approach coordinating with referral sources, community agencies, and outpatient providers.
