Find your calm and inner 'peas'. Try Medical Nutrition Therapy's recipe for crunchy roasted baked green peas snack!
Here is this month’s Health Lifestyle and Nutrition Habits brought to you by the Tsehootsooi Medical Center's Medical Nutrition Therapy Department.
Let’s talk about the vegetable of the month, peas!
Peas come in a variety of green colors and can also be yellow, brown, or even purple! They can be eaten raw, dried, or frozen. However you choose to add peas to your diet, your body will receive the healthy nutrients and protection it needs.
Peas can protect your heart because they have no fat or salt. They are also rich in fiber, which can lower bad cholesterol in your blood and aid in healthy digestion. All peas have protein, which is good for growing muscles. They are also a good source of vitamin C which can help fight infections.
Add peas to your soups, stews, or salads to enjoy these benefits. You can also substitute mashed peas for ½ of the mashed avocados in guacamole to lower the fat content. Enjoy the power of peas and add to your diet!
